Scores are more important to admission and to scholarships than ever.
Test scores have increased in importance to admissions, according to a recent study conducted by the National Association for College Admission Counseling [NACAC], and class rank and grades have decreased in importance, since 1995.
Many scholarships are directly linked to test scores: Almost 80 percent of schools use test scores as part of determining eligibility for their merit aid. And merit aid has risen, sometimes at the expense of need-based aid. Even need-based aid can be affected by a candidate’s application, scores included. In a nutshell: Many schools create the best packages for the students they want most. Test scores are one way schools decide who they want most.
Test scores are an important part of getting into school — and paying for it. Raising your test scores can not only help you get into the best schools, but also help you win the best scholarships.
